Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

Embracing Gratitude: Why It's Far From Overrated

I keep telling myself daily “Be thankful… be grateful… feel blessed” and will beat myself up when I don’t stop and smell the roses more often. Sounds familiar?

We have heard it, read about it, meditated with it but is it really that significant and powerful as it is often claimed to be?

Let’s take a closer look at the benefits and impact of gratitude.

Perspective: Gratitude has the amazing ability to shift our perspective, to help us to focus on all the positive in our lives. It doesn’t mean we don’t have challenges but it will redirect our attention to the things we often take for granted. When focusing on the good we can feel more content and appreciative of the present moment. (truly, there is always something good to find, even if it comes a lot later or after the fact)

Mental Health: “While it’s unclear if there is a causal connection between gratitude and better mental health, multiple studies have found that people with higher levels of gratitude seem to have improved mental health. Research has also found that expressing gratitude daily may reduce stress and increase positive emotions.” says an article in the University of Maryland Medical System.

When we practice gratitude, we train our minds to recognize and savor the good, which promotes a more optimistic mindset. This, in turn, enhances our overall emotional well-being and promotes a healthier outlook on life.

Relationships: Expressing gratitude towards others often creates a sense of connection and appreciation. This helps deepen our relationships, makes them more meaningful and brings forth other acts of kindness, generosity and empathy.

Gratitude is a powerful tool for building and strengthening relationships. We all want to be valued and love to hear that we are appreciated. A reminder to all: voice your appreciation!

Physical Health: Believe it or not, gratitude can also have a positive impact on our physical well-being. Research suggests that gratitude practices are linked to improved sleep, reduced blood pressure, and a stronger immune system.

By reducing stress and promoting a more relaxed state of mind, gratitude indirectly supports our physical health and vitality.

Resilience: Life is filled with ups and downs, and it's during challenging times that gratitude can truly shine. By actively practicing gratitude, we develop resilience and a greater ability to navigate adversity. It reminds us of the strength we possess, helping us find silver linings even in the darkest moments.

Gratitude fuels our resilience, empowering us to bounce back and continue moving forward with renewed determination.

Gratitude is far from overrated!

It is a transformative mindset that has the potential to improve various aspects of our lives. Its ability to shift our perspective, enhance mental and physical health, strengthen relationships, and cultivate resilience is a testament to its power. Everybody can learn and apply this!

Embracing gratitude doesn't require grand gestures; it can be as simple as expressing appreciation for the small joys and acts of kindness we encounter every day. By incorporating gratitude into our lives, we unlock a world of positivity, abundance, and well-being. So, let us embrace gratitude wholeheartedly and reap the incredible benefits it has to offer.

Ohh and let’s not forget to mention how wonderful it is to have a little sparkle in your heart! Your brain is incredible as you can bring an image to mind of a happy, joyful occurrence and automatically you will smile! Try it!
