“For me, my home is a peaceful place where I can rest and it gives me back energy.”
- Fabiola Gianotti
When you have a certain energy flow in your surroundings you will feel better, attract all things good and generally have more 'ease' in your life.
The ancient Chinese art of placement, Feng Shui translates literally to “wind-water.” Its goal is to achieve harmony, comfort and balance in one’s environment first and then in one’s life.
It is more than living in an organized space and knowing where everything is in your home. Although, that is a big plus!
Who doesn't want harmony, comfort and balance in their lives?
The chi energizing principles are more modernized these days and is a more flexible and practical approach while still respecting the fundamental concepts of energy flow and balance.
The basic rules are still based on the 5 elements, who all have their own individual qualities. Fire, earth, water, wood, and metal look and appear different but it is more about what they represent.
Color, textures, contrasts, furniture placement, reflection in mirrors and energy drains are to be considered in the flow of chi. Each element is related to specific colors that can be incorporated into your decor or wardrobe to bring more of that element’s qualities into your life. And yes, there is still a personal preference and style that is incorporated, so it feels like you.
10 Tips to Improve the Positive Chi Energy in your Home
1. Keep Your Doorway and Entry Space Clear. Whatever you see to your left as you walk in the door should be pleasing to the eye and not be cluttered. Avoid obstacles in your entry way that you have to negotiate your way around.
2. Air Quality Matters. In terms of your health, air quality is your number one priority. Some of us live in the country, where clean air is plentiful; and then there are those of us who live in the inner-city where soot and unhealthy particles are floating through the air and landing on our windowsills. Grow an indoor garden of air-purifying plants, use essential oils to clear the air, or add an air-purifier.
3. Let There Be Light. Natural light improves your energy level. If there are things cluttering your windowsills or your blinds or windows are in need of cleaning, clear and clean them. If natural light is not as bright or plentiful as you’d like it to be, there are intelligent, smart indoor lighting products to choose from. As you move into the light, your energy level will improve ten-fold!
4. Sleep Right. You will miraculously find that you will sleep better at night if your bed is positioned so that your head isn’t resting towards the door. It just feels right. And, if you are sleeping with someone, sharing your bed ... do not push two box-springs or mattresses together. The great ‘divide’ divides!
5. Dust Under Things. You may not see the dust under the bed or even in the closets, but it is there and it is blocking the energy flow. Mindfulness and well-being is so important in our living spaces, it promotes creating environments that support relaxation, stress reduction, and overall health.
6. Paint Your Kitchen. It is said that by painting your kitchen a pastel color, you are promoting positive energy, and that bright red and orange promotes appetite. What color is your kitchen and how does its vibe feel to you?
7. Three Feet Between Furniture. The rule of thumb is to leave three feet of open space between all furniture, because it allows for free flow of energy and it will ease your mind. (if you have the room and space!)
8. Decorate Organically. The use of earth tones, earth materials such as wood and clay promote a sense of calm and comfort. There are so many amazing, sophisticated shades of warm clay from brown to gray available.
9. De-Clutter. If the magazines are old, if the newspapers are piling up, if you haven’t worn that outfit in over 5 years ... toss it! (and I mean: recycle it, of course) Even if you follow every one of the above steps - paint your kitchen a pastel color, grow healthy plants for healthy air - the clutter will negate the benefits and zap your energy big time!
10. The Fridge. Now that you have created good feng shui throughout your home, it is time to stock your fridge with the right stuff. A bounty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains. You only have one body, take good care of it.
Hope this is helpful to improve the positive chi energy in your home!
