Protect Yourself

The choices you make in your life, will make your life.”

- Michael Josephson

Humans are miraculous. Our bodies are simply incredibly amazing. Agreed?

We all deserve to be healthy and well, although that can seem like a gift to some. The influences that play a big part in our health include our ancestry, our environmental exposures and our experiences in life.

We can be predisposed to certain genes. We may not have had the best start if our mothers did not have a healthy life style during pregnancy. Where we grew up could have been contaminated by outside toxins. City living most likely is not as good for our health as rural living.

How we treat our bodies and its health, will determine how we feel and how well we are able to function.

What can we do to protect ourselves from harm, toxins and hurt?

Protect Yourself

5 Ways to Protect and Take Care of YOU!

1. Choose Health as the Answer

No matter what the question is: choose health. When you have had a rough day and just want to binge eat and finish a whole bottle of wine... choose health and think of a better option. Go for a walk. Enjoy and savor a little dark chocolate. Call a friend.

2. Detox Your Home

Check your home for hidden toxins, such as the fireproof fibers in your curtains, the plastic bottles and containers in your cupboards, the scented candles someone gave you. Take off your shoes in your house and wear cozy slippers. Do some research for non toxic cookware.

3. Protect Your Skin

As an esthetician I can't say this enough... wear sunscreen. Make sure to use it even on cloudy days, to protect yourself from UVA, UVB and HEV (blue light omitted by your screens) And check that sunscreen for ingredients that may cause harm over time. Stay away from oxybenzone and octinocate! The beauty industry is highly underrated and even doctor recommended products may contain ingredients that you should not apply to your skin everyday. Check out the EWG.org website and double check to see if your shampoo, deodorant, moisturizers, etc are safe for your health. Shop Beautycounter's non-toxic skin and body care with me.

4. Set Boundaries

To protect you from an overload of stress avoid the drama at work, in your home and in your relationships with others. When a situation arises, take a deep breath. Do not react or jump to conclusions which could be triggered by memories from a past experience. Remove yourself if you can and wait before responding. In the big scheme of things it may not be that big of a deal. Hind side is always 20-20.

5. Take Care of Your Brain

We often talk about taking care of our health by taking good care of our physical health, which is great. But what about our mental health? Do you pay attention to the health of your brain? Challenging your brain with puzzles, reading and good sleep will help connecting and rewiring the neurons in the brain. Check out the complete list by the Alzheimers Association.

You only have one body, take good care of it.
