“Knowing trees, I understand the meaning of patience. Knowing grass, I can appreciate persistence.”
~ Hal Borland
In today's fast-paced world, patience is difficult.
We like instant gratification, being in control, and getting things done. After all, a lot of things can happen real quick and easy at the click of a button.
At the moment, I am in a recovery state after thumb joint surgery, and I am learning to let go of some of the not-so-important things. Boy, that's not easy! But I see the value of allowing inner peace as I heal. Taking time to rest and listening to my body is crucial for recovery. My non-dominant left hand is getting stronger, and I even enjoyed trying to paint left-handed! It's okay that things take time. That task on my to-do list can wait. I can breathe and be grateful for my husband when he cuts up the veggies and meat on my plate, right?
Do you feel like there is not enough time in the day, and waiting in line at the store can make you impatient? Generally, waiting is not easy when you have to go places and get stuff done.
Patience is not just the ability to wait but the capacity to maintain composure and resilience with challenges and uncertainties. It's about understanding that good things take time and trusting all is happening just as it should be. With patience, we gain the strength to face hardships, the wisdom to navigate life's twists and turns, and the gratitude to appreciate the beauty of each step along the way.
When we practice patience, we learn to let go of control (yikes, really?) and accept things as they are. We let go of the need to rush and instead take in the present moment with an open heart and mind.
Patience allows for understanding and empathy in our relationships. It helps us listen attentively, communicate effectively, and resolve conflicts with compassion and tolerance.
Moreover, patience is not just a virtue; it's the cornerstone of success. It empowers us to pursue our goals with perseverance and determination, knowing that setbacks are just detours on the path to achievement.
In Bonaire last month: Waiting for a beautiful sunset!
It starts with mindfulness: Being present in each moment and accepting things as they come. You can practice patience through meditation, deep breathing, and reframing your perspective on time. (Journal about your feelings and progress!)
Embrace gratitude: Have a mindset of gratitude by focusing on the positive aspects of your life and appreciating the journey, even during difficult times. Gratitude can help shift your perspective and keep you feeling less impatient.
Set realistic expectations: Recognize that things take time and setbacks are a natural part of life. Not everything can be done today! Set realistic goals and know that patience is essential for achieving long-term success. You'll get that cookie when the time is right! 🐶
Work on your patience daily. You will live more in harmony with your wisdom, allowing you to grow and enjoy the life you are living. Stay committed, curious, and grateful!
